Justice for the brutally murdered; Trayvon Martin and Ali Ahmed

The not guilty verdict of George Zimmerman, the man accused of murdering Trayvon Martin reminded me the Oct 15, 2010 murder of Ali Ahmed Mohammed, 27 years old Ethiopian immigrant who was brutally beaten to death by the owner and 4 employees of DC9, a night club on Washington DC’s U Street, they savagely attacked and killed the young Ethiopian who tried to enter to the club but was turned away at the door. He became angry, picked up two bricks and hurled them through the nightclub’s front window, witnesses told investigators. The five men; William Spieler 46 and four of his employees: Darryl Carter Jr., 20; Reginald Phillips, 22; and Evan Preller, 28, the club’s manager, all residents of the District; and Arthur Andrew Zaloga, 25, of Silver Spring “chased Mohammed and caught Mohammed and threw him to the ground stomp the victim on the head and the body” according to the affidavit. Mohammed died at Howard University hospital, a short time after the alleged assault. Witness says Mohammed pleaded  for mercy.

Ali Ahmed Mohammed

After some court hearings ,the case of his death was closed with a tricky forensic examination stating the cause of his death as excited delirium, a health problem associated with heart defects, alcohol intoxication and physical exertion with restraint…a health problem which is not recognized as a medical or psychiatric diagnosis according to either the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) of the American Psychiatric Association or the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization. Many civil liberties groups to question the cause of death diagnosis, claiming that excited delirium are being used to “excuse and exonerate” law enforcement authorities after the death of detained subjects, a possible “conspiracy or cover-up for brutality” when restraining agitated people especially young African-Americans.
