In Our Voices: The Journeys of LGBT Refugees and Asylees

In 78 countries, individuals are targeted, abused, tortured, and killed because of who they are and who they love. Many individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) have no option but to seek safety and protections as refugees. For those resettling in the United States, they are met with new challenges and obstacles, both as refugees and as members of the LGBT community. “In Our Voices: The Journeys of LGBT Refugees,” a new short video produced by Heartland Alliance International, highlights the courageous stories of a transgender refugee from the Middle East and a lesbian asylee from Central Africa. Learn more about why LGBT refugees flee their countries and what resettlement agencies can do to support them in their time of need. Watch this inspiring video here.
